Ashraful Islam Jitu, the main accused in the Ashulia teacher Utpal Kumar Sarkar murder case, has given a confessional statement before a Dhaka court.

Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajib Hasan recorded the statement of Jitu under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on Wednesday following his five-day remand.

Judge Rajib Hasan sent Jitu to jail, said court inspector Motiur Rahman.

Ashulia police station Sub-Inspector Emdadul Haque said: “We obtained important information from Jitu during remand and we have presented the information in court. The judge has ordered to send him to jail after he recorded his confession.”

The managing committee of Haji Yunus Ali School and College has been closed following the murder of teacher Utpal Kumar Sarkar.

Earlier, a female student has been suspended in connection with the murder case, one day after prime accused Jitu got expelled.

Utpal Kumar, who was injured after Jitu thrashed him with a cricket stump, died while undergoing treatment at Savar Enam Medical College and Hospital at around 5:15am on June 27.

He was a lecturer in the Political Science Department and chairman of the disciplinary committee at Haji Yunus Ali School and College in Ashulia.

His brother later filed a case with Ashulia police station.
